Slip, 2003/2004
Connells Bay Sculpture Park, Waiheke Island, New Zealand
Deforestation at the turn of last century caused steep land to severely erode. ‘Slip’ acknowledges the powerful fractal forms of erosion. Now, with great effort the care givers for this land heal and preserve it with sensitive indigenous tree planting.
Kato Kauwhata, Ngapuhi, long time resident and kaumatua of Nga Hau e Wha Marae, Waiheke, conducted karakia (prayers/blessings) on the completed installation.
