Prehistoric fertility
symbols were found in this area, and this sculpture is my fertility symbol
for the survival of the planet. Inspired by vulva-shaped healed wounds
in nearby beech trees, the hollow helical stone sculpture rises out of
a First World War bomb crater. It is filled with maize flowers and stalks
from the farms below the mountainside, along with leaves, earth and wild
cyclamen plants from the forest floor. One day the sculpture will literally
flower as the plants grow out from between the stones.
