Hampstead is founded
on hills to the northeast of London, which were once covered in heath,
hill vegetation adapted to seasonal communal grazing. The hills, as in
many parts of the United Kingdom, were also of spiritual and astronomical
significance to early inhabitants; structures were built in earth, stone
or wood for burials, worship or astronomy. Calculating and celebrating
the seasonal changes was integral to survival. Sky Stone Strata celebrates
the blending of earth and sky on the heath.
